Miyako Inn does extensive lighting makeover with the help of LightingUniverse

The Miyako Inn, located in the Japan Town district of Los Angeles, is undertaking a thorough makeover of its lighting fixtures in the guest rooms and hallways of the 11-floor hotel and has chosen LightingUniverse.com to provide the fixtures. LightingUniverse.com President Russ Murphy visited the Miyako Inn and interviewed Le Thi, Chief Engineer, who is responsible for the installation of the lighting fixtures.

"The Miyako Inn is a modern styled hotel located in the heart of the Japan Town district of Los Angeles. I stayed there about ten years ago, and still had positive memories of the place. At that time it reminded me in many ways of another Los Angeles landmark of modernism, the Mondrian Hotel on Sunset Boulevard, which was a popular hotel close to Beverly Hills. The Miyako had the additional benefit of being right around the corner from some of my favorite sushi and sake restaurants in the Los Angeles area!

When I had the chance to visit the Miyako in January of 2002, I looked forward to seeing the progress of the renovation. We had delivered some really nice modern glass fixtures from Kenroy International and Lite-Source so I knew that they were continuing with the modern style.

Mr. Thi, Chief Engineer for the Miyako, showed up in the lobby to take me to see the floors under renovation. The hotel is doing two floors with the remaining 9 scheduled for completion over the course of the next few months.

Each guest room has been retrofitted with a new vanity fixture in the bathroom, a hallway wall sconce and a pendant.

In the bathroom, the Miyako will feature a nickel finished and white frosted glass fixture called the Apollo Vanity Light from Kenroy International. This vanity light has an elegant, yet modern design with a stylish brushed nickel finish and is available with three lights.

In the hall, Miyako designers chose the Caliente Wall Sconce from Lite Source. The Caliente’s polished steel finish and blue glass accentuates the Miyako’s contemporary room décor. The long stem fixture and glass diffuser measures 23” long by only 3” wide.

In the bedroom hangs the Vase Mini Pendant from Kenroy. This very unique mini pendant features a brushed nickel finish with a frosted glass diffuser. The pendant comes with a ten foot cord which allows the Vase to be placed over the small seating area or television stand in the corner of each room.

Also, each hallway is getting a complete new set of wall sconces, and Mr. Thi told me he would be searching our site for some new pieces for the elevator lobbies on each floor. The pictures included pretty much tell the rest of the story...except for how Lightinguniverse.com’s Project Management Tools and contract purchasing options can and will be helping Mr. Thi with a number of challenges as the project continues. Next newsletter, I will tell you about Mr. Thi’s problem, and how LightingUniverse.com was able to help him solve it."Stay tuned for the continuation of Russ Murphy's visit to the Miyako Inn in our upcoming email newsletter.
